Freda Competition Winners!
Here's the winning entry and the 'best of the rest' from the Freda writing competition.
Lots of my Fantastic Fan Club members took part, giving Duncan, Holly and myself a big headache sorting out the winners.
Well done to everyone who entered and remember...
...it's easy to be green!
The Winning Entry from Sandy Harrison
Recycling
Recycling is a good thing to do.
It cleans the environment for me and you.
Paper, magazines and old books,
get taken away by big trucks.
Freda Frog and her crew,
teach you recycling is great to do.
Freda Frog is nice and green,
she's bright, kind and very clean.

Roseworth Primary School, Stockton-on-Tees
And now for some of the other great entries
Freda the Frog
Our friendly frog Freda would like to make this place cleaner.
We all need to be a bit greener.
So start recycling and even cycling.
Stop polluting, share your commuting.
Don't be lazy, let's go crazy.
Fill your blue box but keep on your socks,
as Freda jumps for joy.

Recycling Rubbish - Rocks
Clothes bins, plastic bins, glass bins too,
Recycling rubbish is not that hard to do,
It will then become a habit to do the right thing,
Care for the environment - don't just put it in the bin!

Recycle, Reduce and Re-use
Hey, let's all follow Freda,
To keep our town cleaner.
Wouldn't it be class
To recycle plastic, paper and glass?
To reduce all the waste,
That can take up lots of space.
In school we like to reuse,
Cartons, boxes, paper and plastic,
Give it a try,
It's fantastic.
Don't drop litter on the floor,
Because soon it will pile up more and more.
Let's all do our best,
To reduce the rubbish,
So our environment,
Is not messed.

Don't throw it away
Save that tree that's took so long to grow
because your old paper can be re-used you know.
Don't throw your milk bottles away
they can be used another day.
Your old clothes that are worn and tatty
will keep another person warm and happy.
A little bit of time spent every day,
reuse your rubbish, don't throw it away.
Laura Bulson - Age 8
Acklam Whin Primary School, Middlesbrough
Don't throw your rubbish away
My mum says never throw your rubbish away
because our environment is so precious today.
She gets her compost bin and throws everything in it,
she says recycle it, don't just bin it.
Laura Danieli - Age 8
Acklam Whin Primary School, Middlesbrough
Recycling
When you put an item in the bin
think twice before you put it in.
Many things that go to waste,
save today, don't give in haste.
Among the things that can be used,
are glass, paper, tins and shoes.
Save these things and all will be well
if you don't this land will be a shell.
This Earth is a beautiful place
so keep rubbish off the streets and in its place.
Just remember to recycle,
When it is time, be good and don't get a fine.
So, next time you put something in the bin
think twice before you put it in.

Tilery Primary School, Stockton-on-Tees
Freda Frog
Freda Frog was hurt
with a little lump of dirt.
Inside was a piece of glass
just dumped there on the grass.
Her foot was sore
she could bare it no more.
Freda began to cry
and shouted "Why? Why?"
I gave her a hug,
a slurp from my mug,
and a smile grew on her face.
Ace!
Now Freda spreads the news
and everyone's heard her views
Recycle all your waste!
No haste!
Marina Gears - Age 6
William Cassidi Primary School, Stockton-on-Tees
Recycling
There was a frog called Freda,
who wanted to make the world neater.
She collected cans,
with her hands.
She walked mile after mile
but it still made her smile.
To know that her town was cleaner.
Nathan Duke - Age 9
Riverdale Primary School, Redcar
Rubbish
Rubbish rubbish everywhere
Soon there'll be no where to spare
If you've finished with your litter
Bin it, please don't make us bitter!
If it's empty pop it in
Into our recycle bin
If you don't then you are dim
And you may end up in our bin
Nicholas Hare - Age 6
Crooksbarn Primary School, Stockton-on-Tees
The Recycle King
We have a friend called Simon,
who is the recycle king,
and if you don't recycle,
then you will hear him sing.
Recycle it, recycle it and make our planet good,
and if you don't recycle we really think you should.
Recycle it, recycle it, your papers, bottles, cans.
Recycle it, recycle it and save our precious lands.
Peter Hare - Age 10
Crooksbarn Primary School, Stockton-on-Tees
The blue bag caper
Don't bin your papers,
do the blue bag caper.
Recycle your rubbish and you'll be king of the heap.
Don't let Freda the Frog down or you'll be a cheat!
So put your papers in the blue bag and do the world a favour.
